Centre for Geostatistics was established in 1994 with the Co-operation of Centre de Geostatistique, ecole des mines, Fontainebleau, France and French Government. The objective in opening of the centre is to give training in the field of Geostatistics to the Geologists, Mining Engineers & computer Engineers and to take up consultancy assignments for Geostatistical Ore Reserve Estimation. The centre has so far trained aboout 200 persons from 45 different organisations through a number of  workshops and training programs. Some of the organizations to which it has extended its consultancy services include SAIL, MALCO and APMDC. The centre is equipped with most comprehensive Geostatistical Software and computer hardware suited to the needs of mineral industry. All the officers of the Centre for Geostatistics were trained at the Centre de Geostatistique , Fontainebleau, France which is the birth place of Geostatistics.

• Geostatistical Ore Reserve Estimation with appropriate Geostatistical techniques. (Kriging, Co-Kriging etc )

• Determination of Optimum Drilling Grid

• Pit Optimization

Use of non-linear techniques including change of support for the determination of global recoverable reserves. With these techniques, global recoverable reserves for any support can be estimated and grade tonnage curves can be drawn

• Use of disjunctive kriging techniques for the estimation of local recoverable reserves of individual benches

• Conditional simulations for knowing the variability of the deposit.
